The History Behind "Bear Fruit"

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

Why the name of this blog is "Bear Fruit" and the inspiration behind it.

As mentioned on the main home page of the website, "Bear Fruit" comes from John 15:4-5, which says, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

In this passage of scripture, Jesus is saying that if we are in Him, then we will bear fruit. The fruit he is talking about is the Fruit of the Spirit which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are all found and listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

What he means by all of this is that if we are in Christ, there will be fruit in our lives. That is a way that we can know who is of God and who is not. If we are who we say we are and we are in Christ, then obviously there should be indicators of there things.

On the other side of this, there is the side of people who don't have fruit in their lives and say that they are in Christ. It scares me that many people say that they are Christians, yet live their life as if they are still living for things of the world. Jesus doesn't say in John that if you are in me, you might bear fruit. He says, "he it is that bears much fruit." It isn't a maybe or a question. It is a simple statement.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:

  • Are you bearing fruit?

  • Are there any fruits that your life isn't showing?

  • If so, why not? And how can you grow in these things?

  • How can you grow in all of these fruits whether in your life or not?
